I recall a television spot from the early '70's (I may be wrong) but any way the deal was this.
A young couple is interested in buying a house, they are on the front steps to the house with the real-estate salesman, who is kind of interchangeable with a used car salesman. They ask if there are any blacks in the neighborhood and the salesman replies "Oh no, you don't have to worry about any of those people in this neighborhood" The couple then looks at each other like they have just made up their mind, this neighborhood is not for them.
The point is that people can do what they consider to be the right thing, regardless of what any politician says!
