A Civil Discussion

The About race in plain English article brings up an interesting point, We have to remember that it was laws that allowed blacks to use the white drinking fountains, It was laws that allowed the black man to sit in the front of the bus, It was laws that allowed the black man to go to the same schools as whites. Whites just didn't wake up one morning and decide that blacks would be allowed to eat in the same restaurants that they did, Blacks formed a movement that drove our legislation to create laws. This is the Key.

Our legislation created laws to prohibit a segregated society because they were forced to. I've asked you before about the civil rights cases and you seem to not give a real answer, What is your position on the segregation of public schools? Do you think that the government should have desegregated or not? What about Public restrooms? should we separate black from white? Should this country allow a public restaurant to prohibit Negroes from entering?

My own personal opinion is that our society is a <<New Link 5/25/00>>racist one. I think that the press and politicians exploit the race issue. We hear about the race issue because it is an issue that divides and causes controversy. I think that the race card is just as much a black problem as a white one. In recent months we have witnessed in the news several stories of black on white crime that failed to include the racial profile of the victim and assailant, Because the assailant had been black and the victim white. I would agree with the article about the fact that blacks have come far compared to where they were but, It was the laws that helped to get them there. Therefore they are going to keep the issue alive in order to create a system that creates laws aimed at helping the needs of their people.

Take the Don't ask, don't tell policy for instance. Isn't America supposed to be a free country. Since when can't you be a Homosexual and be a member of the armed forces? This is an issue that will require a law to be created.

Once that law is created expect a lot more laws aimed at stopping discrimination against people because of their sexual preference. I know that you will probably say that this is a free country and people should be allowed to discriminate, Your Right, I totally agree. The problem is that if you begin to allow restaurants, car washes, movie theaters, Supermarkets, etc... If these types of places are allowed to discriminate openly, the discrimination will then begin to corrupt juries, police officers, judges, politicians, maybe even presidents. What do you believe America would be like today had the civil rights movement not existed? Would society be better or worse? And why should we as a society knock a group of people for using the laws of our society in order to help themselves. If whites have a problem with the way blacks organize and protest, Then I would suggest that whites form a legitimate party that helps them to spread their message. You once said that race is a good reason to have a party, but not a good reason to form a party. I agree with your concept, BUT, Race divides ,therefore, Race is the fastest and easiest way to form a party.

Boy was this fun
