Independence Day

WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness - 

Unalienable, we read the word all the time, but do we know what it means? A dictionary puts it as: incapable of being alienated, surrendered, or transferred. So your Rights are something that you can not bargain away, because they don't exist in the real world. Your Rights exist as an Ideal in the minds of men. The beauty of the Idea of Rights is that they are not dependent upon society for their creation, but man can organize society (government) to protect the Idea of Rights. A Government is like a Wolf protecting Sheep, supposing  a Wolf can be trained for the task, as it would be tough keeping the Wolf on task, (but hey... that is where the part about diligence comes in). For a Wolf hired to protect the Sheep to claim he created the Sheep is just plain silly.

Rights only exist in our heads and hearts. We create a government to protect us from those who don't respect the Ideals and try to deny others the exercise of their Rights, that Include Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness. And the Right to waste a ton of money on firecrackers!

George Washington could not help proclaiming that "Government is not reason, is not eloquence -- it is force! Like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible actions"
